WECC Happy Earth Day
51 years ago, on the 22nd of April, marked the birth of the Environmental Movement, Earth Day.
Great concern for the oil spills, pollution, toxic dumps, loss of wilderness, and extinction of wildlife among others, was the motivation that lead Senator Nelson to start this movement in America.
In 1990, Earth Day became Global and Senator Nelson was awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom for being the founder of Earth Day. It mobilised 200 million people in 141 countries that brought a global awareness.
Today it is marked as the day where human behaviour must change to help global warming and help change local, national and global policies.
