XVII Infopoverty World Conference

The 17th Infopoverty World Conference will take place on April 21, 2017 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and will focus on “Transferring knowledge and adequate technologies: the way to combat poverty and make the world safer”.

The Infopoverty World Conference, organized by OCCAM under the patronage of the European Parliament since 2001, and declared “Flagship event initiative” by the UN General Assembly (Report n° A/68/186), points out on a yearly basis the most innovative solutions and the best practices. This event represents a prestigious appointment for its continuity, operational capability and strong interoperability with the UN system and a unique global forum gathering leading experts, academics, opinion leaders, managers, government officials, philanthropists. The Infopoverty World Conference aims at offering adequate solutions to fight poverty and achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Program of the Conference:

  • HOW ICTs CAN CONTRIBUTE TO TACKLE CLIMATE CHANGE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT: THE WORLD FOOD SECURITY e-CENTER
    The Conference will be opened with the launch of the World Food Security e-Center, as a legacy of EXPO 2015, during the parallel videoconference from the EU Parliament Information Office in Milan, devoted to supply services and digital technologies directly to the people, communities and public institutions to give concrete solutions and launch important initiative for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • HEALTH FOR ALL: THE ROLE OF TELEMEDICINE IN TRANSFERRING SKILLS TO VILLAGES
    A second session will be dedicated to the role of telemedicine in transferring skills to villages thus saving lives, crops and livestocks through new protocols of distant care.
  • THE DIGITAL REVOLUTION: MOVING FROM SMART CITIES TO ICT VILLAGES TO EMPOWER PEOPLE’S LIVES
    The third session will be dedicated to new technological solutions for development in order to help disadvantaged communities and ensure an effective achievement of the SDGs through the employment of ICTs.
  • BUILDING A PLATFORM FOR THE SHARING OF KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNOLOGIES
    The fourth and last session will explore, with main stakeholders, government, the UN System, academia and civil society representatives, the best way to start action together, to act fast to achieve these goals.
