ANCI and WECC sign an Agreement for the promotion of the Italian territory during Expo

The National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI), in the framework of the ANCIperEXPO initiative, and the World Expo Commissioners Club jointly signed an agreement aimed at promoting the excellences of the entire Italian territory during 2015, the year of the Universal Exposition of Milan.

The Agreement has two main objectives to be accomplished with the collaboration of all the interested partner cities. First of all, ANCI and WECC would like to create and distribute a tourist catalogue including, as tourist destinations, all those cities that are willing to take part in this initiative. The purpose is to let all the people that will visit Italy in 2015 on the occasion of the Expo, have the possibility to live a full “Italian experience” by discovering all the hidden treasures that are spread along the whole Country.

The second goal pursued by ANCI and WECC together is to involve the whole Italian citizenship in Expo, by promoting a sort of twinning among each Italian city and the Participating Counties in Expo. The result would be the organization of many events in the Pavilions by the Italian municipalities that, in turn, would host the twin-Country in their city with a calendar of initiatives and events.

WECC debuts in Rome

The World Expo Commissioners Club had its debut in front of the representatives of the foreign diplomatic missions in Rome on the occasion of an event hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Club (MFA Club) in its outstanding headquarters in Lungotevere dell’Acqua Acetosa.

Ambassador Alessandro Vattani, President of the MFA Club, gave a very friendly welcome speech highlighting the significance of the initiative as a sort of twinning among two Clubs sharing the same objective. The encouragement and promotion of the relationships between Countries, that the MFA Club pursues since its foundation in 1937, represents the same principle inspiring the World Expo Commissioners Club in the particular context of the International Expositions.

The audience of diplomats representing about fifty countries had then the possibility to hear from the words of the President of the World Expo Commissioners Club himself, Mr. Alessandro Rosso, the main points characterizing the Association and its engagements towards the promotion of the Expos. One of the greatest challenges lies in transforming these great events in opportunities for the territories hosting the Expos, as well as in creating a long lasting network of people sharing experiences and developing projects for the future.

Ambassador Claudio Moreno, Deputy Chairman of the WECC and Commissioner General of Italy in previous Expos, and Ms. Nausika Spahia, General Director of the WECC, then took the floor giving an overview of the ongoing activities of the Club and of the future initiatives that are going to be organized, in particular in the year of Expo Milano 2015.

The perspective of the World Expo Commissioners Club is to be a permanent organization moving along with the next Expos. That is why the presence of the representatives of Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates was very meaningful in the meeting in Rome, in the light of Expo Astana 2017 and Expo Dubai 2020.

WECC introduces itself in Brussels

WECC introduces itself in Brussels, during the semester of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union

The World EXPO Commissioners Club, a network supporting EXPO founded in Milan on 2 April last, made its international début in front of a large audience of personalities from around the world.

On November 13th, the WECC was the promoter, together with the Italian Embassy in Brussels, of the Conference “EXPO MILANO 2015, A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO PROMOTE BUSINESS AND GROWTH” in which there were a succession of speeches from illustrious members of the Government and prominent international figures, including the numerous General Commissioners of Expo Milano 2015.

The proceedings were opened by the Italian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Alfredo Bastianelli, followed by James J. Higgins, representing the US Department of State for Agriculture, by the speech from Ye Bin, senior member of the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade and by Expo representatives from Burundi and Brazil.

Also of great interest was the speech by Alessandro Rosso, Chairman of WECC and Deputy Commissioner General of Sierra Leone for EXPO Milano 2015 who took the floor to illustrate to the audience the reasons and objectives of WECC.

“WECC’s proposal is to develop a dynamic platform that simplifies the decision-making process of EXPO. EXPO’s themes are linked to the major global challenges faced by mankind: the EXPO in Shanghai was focused on the city and the increase in urbanisation, that of Milan will address nutrition and sustainability and Dubai will be dedicated to the future of the world through the use of new technologies. All this requires adequate tools to support and facilitate the decision-making process in both the public and private sector.”

WECC, starting from EXPO 2015 and for subsequent Universal Expositions, will have the task of providing fundamental support to all relationships between organisers, institutions, businesses and end users, in order to facilitate the implementation and success of events of worldwide significance.

In addition, WECC representatives, at the close of the important seminar “FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY TOWARDS EXPO 2015”, were among the guests of the Gala Dinner organised by the Italian Ambassador, Alfredo Bastianelli, at the Italian Embassy in Brussels.
